Robert Schaller received his MFA in Interdisciplinary Performance at the University of Colorado with legendary experimental filmmakers Stan Brakhage and Phil Solomon. In addition to fifteen years of teaching for the Handmade Film Institute, he has been a member of the faculty at the University of Colorado and the San Francisco Art Institute, and has taught for the San Francisco Film Arts Foundation, and the Northwest Film Forum in Seattle. He has made visiting artist appearances at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee; Pitzer College in Claremont, California; the University of Florida, Gainesville; Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton; and at the University of San Francisco.
Robert has worked extensively with integrations of different media with film, including musical composition (as both composer and collaborator), modern dance, theater, installation, kite-making (the Aerial Cinema Project), and performance, in addition to the creation of emulsions, cameras, and projection devices. His works have played all over the world, most recently including solo shows at the Harvard Film Society, the Western Front in Vancouver, the Los Angeles Film Forum, John Hopkins University, and the University of Plymouth, UK, as well as screening at the Rotterdam Film Festival, the Ann Arbor Film Festival, the Images festival in Toronto, the Bains Argentique conference in Nantes, WORM in Rotterdam, and the Wundergrund Festival in Copenhagen.
