Robert Schaller, Director

Robert Schaller received his MFA in Interdisciplinary Performance at the University of Colorado with legendary experimental filmmakers Stan Brakhage and Phil Solomon. He founded the Handmade Film Institute more than twenty years ago, and has been a member of the faculty at the University of Colorado and the San Francisco Art Institute, as well as teaching for the San Francisco Film Arts Foundation, the Northwest Film Forum in Seattle, and visiting artist appearances at numerous Universities around the US.

Robert has worked extensively with integrations of different media with film, including musical composition (as both composer and collaborator), modern dance, theater, installation, kite-making (the Aerial Cinema Project), and performance, in addition to the creation of emulsions, cameras, and projection devices. His works have played all over the world, recently including solo shows in Paris, the Harvard Film Society, the Western Front in Vancouver, the Los Angeles Film Forum, John Hopkins University, and the University of Plymouth, UK, as well as screening at the Rotterdam Film Festival, the Ann Arbor Film Festival, the Images festival in Toronto, the Bains Argentique conference in Nantes, WORM in Rotterdam, and the Wundergrund Festival in Copenhagen.
